Bird and Twilight Owling Walks

Salt Lake City Parks and Public Lands is please to announce, Dave Oleyar Ph.D., a Senior Scientist at Hawkwatch International will be leading the educational bird walks, discussions and walks during the summer at various locations throughout the City.Check out the schedule and plan to join us for one, or all of the talks and walks listed below!1.  Twilight Owling Walk – Special guest, Artemis, the Western Screech-Owl

Get an up close look at a Screech-Owl and learn a little about owl biology before taking a walk through the park to listen for, and hopefully spot owls.

When:  Thursday, April 30th at 7:30pm

Where:  Miller Park  – 1703 East 900 South

Meeting Location:  the amphitheatre located at the east end of the park off of 900 South

2. International Migratory Bird Day

Join us for an Educational Bird Talk and Walk

When: Saturday, May 9th from 10am until 12:00pm

Where:  Parleys Historic Nature Park

Meeting Location:  the amphitheatre at Tanner Park – 2535 East Heritage Way (2760 South )

3.  American Kestrel

Learn about Hawkwatch’s American Kestrel Study.  Walk to see some of the nest boxes installed in the park. Watch Kestrel activity as they hunt and return food to their young in the boxes. Don’t forget your binoculars!

When:  Saturday, June 6th from 9:30am to 11:30am

Where: Popperton Park  – 1400 East Popperton Park Way (370 North)

Meeting Location:  at the flagpoles near the parking lot

4. American Kestrel

Learn about the Hawkwatch’s American Kestrel Study.  Walk to see some of the nest boxes installed in the park. Watch Kestrel activity as they hunt and return food to their young in the boxes. Don’t forget your binoculars!

When: Saturday, July 11th from 9:30am to 11:30am

What: Education Bird Talk, Walk and Watch

Where: Parleys Historic Nature Park

Meeting Location: the amphitheatre at Tanner Park – 2535 East Heritage Way (2760)
